How to Join the LSCC

You must be aged 18 or over to join the LSCC.  There is no upper age limit.

Our joining process takes a few months but allows non-members to attend meets before applying for membership, (see FAQ's to make an initial inquiry).  Through taking part in meets you’ll get to know the Club and our members will get to know you too. It is a supportive joining process and most people find that by the time they apply to join the Club they already feel a part of it.

The attendance requirement is a minimum of eight days with the Club, which must include two multi-day meets, over a minimum period of six months and a maximum period of two years.

If you have a bit less mountaineering experience, you can join as a Graduating Member and should aim to upgrade to Full Membership within six years.
For Full Membership we expect you to be competent on the Scottish hill in mist and in moderate snow conditions and to have some experience of rock climbing in Scotland
(Full Membership requirements.)

Both levels of membership, Graduating and Full, have the same attendance requirement, stated above.

Anyone applying for membership should have a Proposer, (someone with detailed knowledge of your mountaineering ability) and two Seconders, who have been out on the hill with you. Once you come along to meets and get to know the Club, you'll find members who are happy to propose and second your application.  The Membership Secretary will help you through the process and can advise when best to apply.

What is your top tip for a new member of the club?
Come along on lots of meets and get to know members. There is so much history in the club and lots of really interesting people with great stories to tell. I've found everyone in the club really welcoming, so hopefully you will too.
